February do. Good Stitches block
For the February do. Good Stitches Love Circle quilt, Natalie chose a scrappy strings block for us. She was inspired by this quilt which is featured in the Scraps Inc. book. Natalie asked for one 18 inch block from each of us, and she chose a palette including warm yellows, orangey-reds, coral/pink, teal, and navy.
Having just recently been inspired to create "made fabric" by Luke Haynes and Victoria Findlay-Wolfe at Quiltbeach, I was excited to put together this block. It must be said that I don't have a terrific pile of scraps yet... I haven't been saving them for that long, and I've used quite a few for little projects. I guess it's a good thing to not have so many, but when you read books like Sunday Morning Quilts, you find yourself longing for a big bag of scraps to make some of the projects. It just doesn't feel right digging into yardage to make a "scrappy quilt".
I did manage to put my block together mostly using scraps. Strings, or long strips of fabric of varying widths, are one of the most common types of scraps created from sewing projects, so it's usually something that everyone will have a stash of. I did cut into yardage for three of the prints though.
I'm very pleased with the result, which will be sent off to Natalie shortly. I have seen some of the string blocks made by other Love circle members for this quilt, and I'm sure it's going to be a beauty.
