False Spring

Though it’s a bit early this year, it’s a regular occurrence in London.  I call it the False Spring.  During March, we get a startling break from the cold/grey/rain (and a bit of snow these last few years) and suddenly, it feels like Spring.  The daffodils and other bulbs optimistically poke their heads through the dead leaves, the sun shines, the temperature soars to 55f and everyone feels good again.  It’s a great thing.

Unfortunately it seems to generally be followed by an April shower or sixty (that’s roughly two showers a day mind) and things get a bit chilly again before starting to look bright, possibly, around mid-May.

I say make hay while the sun shines, but just don’t let yourselves be broken-hearted when our False Spring disappears for awhile.  Just count the sunny days while you can!

My week, pictorially

Don’t they just fly by, the weeks?  Photographically speaking, this was a rather dull week really.  Largely because I had my head down, working so much.  But I shall do my best to make it visually stimulating.

It started to really cool down this week.  And it rained, how it rained.  And then it rained. Billie doesn’t much like the rain (though she does love hoses and pools – weird, huh?). I’ll have you know I did not buy her this raincoat, it’s courtesy of Him Indoors. This is the sensible one – the other one (which I have buried in the back of some closet) has pink polka dots on it.  I mean… really. (more…)

My week in pictures

As previously described, I bought a bunch of embroidery stuff online.  Appleton Bros. Ltd. London is my new thread fetish.  These are crewel wools which I picked up in a great sale, and which I can’t wait to use. (more…)

My week in photographs

We had a couple of beautiful sunny days... an indian summer would be nice, wouldn't it? I went for a walk, I have always loved the old sign on this building.

We actually went out for a meal! Me and Him Indoors. Together! At the same time! We tried out a neighbour restaurant called Little Sardinia. This is the lentil and Sardinian sausage soup. Yum.

Badlands

Well I seem to have no time whatsoever to do any posts. I suppose that’s what I get for giving myself two jobs on this tour (and only paying myself for one). Also wifi on the bus has been pretty sketchy all through South Dakota yesterday and Montana today. I guess they haven’t figured out how to attach satellite dishes to cattle yet.

Here’s one of the band, when we stopped for a quick break yesterday. Note the greengrocer’s apostrophe.
