Threads, oh glorious threads!
Yes, I bought more threads. I couldn’t help myself. I now have such an excellent stash, it’s so inspirational. What I don’t have is any damn time to do anything creative. Bah! Humbug! Soon… I hope.

Oh boy oh boy
One good thing about going to work this Monday was that I received lots of goodies in the post. I’ve been wanting to try crewel wool embroidery and I found a great sale at The Stitch Store so I was able to load up on some lovely Appleton’s crewel wool at half price! Plus I ordered some fabrics and a few DMC threads I needed… and a few other bits and pieces! I also received a bunch of flexi hoop frames that I got a snapped up cheap on eBay. Oh and a book about teaching your dog tricks which I ordered off Amazon. I’m thinking that Billie is a hopeless case when it comes to tricks, but I’m determined to prove myself wrong. Can’t wait to get started on all this stuff. Do you think they’d miss me at work if I didn’t show up for a few weeks?

August Stitchalong progress
I’ve made my decision for the August Feeling Stitchy Stitchalong. Thanks to a bit of encouragement from some folks on Flickr, I am going with the zoo animals print. I’ve made an initial selection of thread colours. The fabric has so many colours in it that I’m sure I’ll change my mind a few times before I’m done. I want to use some complimentary colours and also some contrasting ones, but I don’t want it to look to colour mentalist. What do you think of my choices?
Check out some of the fabrics chosen by other participants. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone’s results.

Threads, the gateway drug.
Well it’s becoming obvious that for me, one of the attractions of embroidery is playing with coloured threads. Him Indoors said that it’s like someone has given me one of the those boxes of 64 colours of crayons. He could be right, I do remember being deprived of crayons as a child, being locked in a cupboard all day with only a black crayon and a candle.
But this is something really amazing because there are not just 64 colours, there are about 450! And that doesn’t include all the speciality threads. Oh! Oh! Oh! What an instant addiction I have acquired. It’s totally a gateway drug. You remember my previous post, where I bought a pack of 36 colours? Yes, well my next purchase was 100 colours. Then I moved onto the hard stuff — the variegated colours. But that wasn’t enough. I had to have the metallics. And then the designer drugs – the jewel effects, the antique effects, the pearlescents! the GLOW IN THE DARK threads. (more…)
